Try Educational Direct.. they have a website. You enter your info and they’ll email you and tell you if you qualify. You have to have over $10,000 in Federal loans, but they lowered my rate and my payment.
I can tell you one NOT to use, though maybe my experience is not the norm…but American Education Services (AES) its nuts about interest. I pay 54 bucks a month, and some months none of it goes to my principle. Other months I pay 54 and about 2 bucks goes to my principle. So good luck. Perhaps they are just making me pay my interest first…but still it ***** to see NO head way on the loan after 3 years of paying on it. Another company I use is ACS, not sure what the letters stand for, but you can find them by searching for ACS+college loan. They actually apply most of my monthly payments to my principle. Also, don’t forget that on your taxes next year you can deduct the interest you made on student loans. Whichever company you use will either send you a copy of a 1098-E or have one available to you online. It helps a little! Good luck!
Lots of shady characters have entered the consolidation market recently, so it’s important to do your research. Some of them will get you to fill out the application and then immediately sell your app to another company. Make sure to ask any potential consolidation companies how long they’ve been in business and if they’re the actual lender.
Sallie Mae is the largest consolidator of student loans. They’ve got a lot of good info on their site including an FAQ and a calculator to show you what your payments will be if you consolidate.
