Your loans should be listed at the 3 big credit bureaus: TRW, TransUnion and Experian. Or go to

There are a lot of companies that say they will consolidate student loans. You need to make sure that it is a reputable company and does not charge you a large fee or high interest rate. Beware of scams. Check with your regular bank or Credit Union and see if they offer any type of loan consolidation program. Could not locate one website with consolidations for more than one company. You’ll have to do a little leg work.. good luck.

You could go to for a comparison of rates.

Also, its best not to take them at face value, as there may be hidden terms and clauses and tiny font too small for the human eye to read :)

The national student loan database (nslds.ed.gov )will show you all your federal student loans. There is no centralized database for private student loans.

Go to for a complete listing of your federal student loans (private loans are not included). This will give you a complete picture of your student loans including the current holder and amount outstanding (you’ll need this information for your consolidation loan application). You do need your federal PIN to access this site. If you don’t have one you can get it at.

When consolidating you should first work with one of the lenders that have your loans. See what kind of repayment incentives they offer. It’s usually easier to work with someone that already has your information rather than starting from scratch with a brand new lender.
